Yesterday morning, I was the perfect picture of a frazzled mom trying to get out the door to make it on time for my 9 am appointment. It was 8:15 and I still had to drop off the baby at my parents, get gas, try to grab a bite to eat, and fight morning traffic.
Because I work from home, I rarely have to sit through traffic, which means I’m not in my car a whole lot. But when I am, you can bet the radio is on as loud as I can handle it.
Yesterday morning was no exception. As soon as I dropped off the baby, I cranked that volume all the way up and starting singing my little frazzled heart out.
I made my way to the gas station just as Michael Jackson’s Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ came on.
Oh man.
Anything by MJ instantly gets me moving. So instead of missing the song, I left the music playing while I filled up my car. [Key turned to accessory position!]
I couldn’t help but jam out a little while pumping gas. I looked over at the guy beside me and he was kinda sorta moving to the beat. I’m fairly certain I saw him trying not to dance. I gave him that “I know. It’s hard NOT to dance to Michael” look.
Pretty sure he was unsuccessfully resisting. Sometimes the beat just takes hold and you just have to let it do its thing.
Got back in my car, fiddled with radio stations and landed on Stevie Wonder’s Sir Duke.
I mean, seriously.
Try not to carseat dance or be in a bad mood when that song comes on. This was shaping up to be a great morning drive. I was letting people in front of me. I was smiling. I wasn’t irritated or frazzled anymore.
If you can believe it, the next song I stumbled on was Can’t Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake.
It’s like the radio gods were shining down on me.
Totally made my day and it wasn’t even 8:30 am yet. What a difference some good tunes can make!!
So today, I want you to jam out to your favourite beats and let it take ahold of you. Then go out into the world and be the rockin’ good human that you are.
I’ll just leave you with a few more tunes that will most certainly get you going today…
• Happy by Pharrell
• I Feel It Coming by the Weeknd
• Africa by Toto. [Strangely, I love this song.]
• Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go by Wham!
• Take On Me by A-Ha
Oh and if you want to get totally crazy, check out the lyrics to Sir Duke here.
